On November 9 and 10, 2023, the Brno observatory became the center of the nanoworld. The Czech optical cluster organized the 3rd edition of the international Correlative Materials Characterization (CMC) workshop here, which presented new correlative techniques for the analysis and imaging of various types of materials.
The program was divided into four areas:
- correlative analysis of surfaces
- correlative tomography and cryo-electron microscopy
- correlative in-situ analysis
- correlative multimodal and multistage analysis
The biggest experts in the field spoke here, such as the student of the Nobel Prize winner Professor Franz Giessibl or the internationally recognized virologist and director of the Central European Institute of Technology CEITEC Pavel Plevka. In the introduction, the newly created microscopic platform was also introduced, which brings together the community of Brno companies active in microscopy.
The foyer of the observatory belonged to business and young scientific hopefuls. PhD students and participants of the European School of Young Materials Scientists, which was associated with the CMC workshop, presented their work here. News and devices from the field of optics were on display at the stands of the participating companies. The rich program was complemented by excursions to the CEITEC center and electron microscope manufacturers in Brno.
“I am pleased that the CMC workshop is gaining importance and becoming known to experts in the Czech Republic and abroad. The rich participation testifies to the topicality of the topic. In my opinion, the development of equipment that will allow different microscopic methods to be combined for the most accurate material analysis is the future of materials research,” added Petr Přikryl, manager of the Czech Optical Cluster and main organizer of the event.
